Is there a way to fix a chip on my pyrex bakeware?????
l just bought a set of glass pyrex bakeware, and on the first time out the
handle chipped!l was washing it and cut my thumb right open.OUCH!!!But, l
went to pyrex is website and their policy is you can not return products
that were mishandled, and i'm pretty sure l chipped it in the sink.Does
anyone know how to file it down, or put some kind of glass glueso l do not
get hurt again? Thanks.
I wouldn't bother trying to fix it, it will just get worse. It
would be much less dangerous to get new bakeware and save you a lot of
money from a hospital bill from flying glass from the damaged dish
exploding. Think safe, spend the few extra dollars for a new one, and be a
little more careful next time. Good luck!
You can sand the area smooth but you can not safely replace the
chip. Glass will be removed when you sand & it will appear frosted. If
that is OK then you can do it manually with 120 grit sandpaper. Wear work
gloves so you don't recut yourself. Use moderate pressure until there are
no sharp edges. The second method is to use a Dremel style tool or even a
hand drill to speedup the process. You can buy small bits that have a disk
of abrasive material attached ta a hardware or home improvement store. Again, wear gloves & use safety glasses to protect from glass dust. Don't use too much pressure; you will be able to see what the right amount is as you go. It will work best if you keep the tool moving back & forth over the area. Finally, a previous answer talked about more cracks. If you see cracks I wouldn't bother sanding & just get rid of the dish since it wouldn't be safe.
Jellly Bean is right-toss it, certainly don't try and repair
it. We had one explode (wife set it for a few seconds on the stove top)
and it exploded all over the room. Any chip or crack can enable it to
break more. You can replace the one pan at a corning outlet store if
there is an outlet mall around close.
.
Shug, I would just.never mind, sorry about the SHUG,
everyone is so touchy about Justin Timberlake and
mongrels lately. Just live with it, unless it is a really
big gouge in the glass. Companies don't like to do that now. That is because so many people were wiped out when they took the glassware out of the box and now want to blame it on Corelle or whoever. Certain kinds of epoxy, though, will hold up well under extreme heat. GL. .
Sorry, but you should get rid of it. Once there is a visible
chip there may be less visible small cracks that can cause the pyrex to
explode. I was at a friend is house many years ago when this happened &
not only is it scary, but it is very dangerous. See the link below for
further info.
